I liked the idea and it was normal Scalzi, but whether because of my mood or something else, I wasn't quite as enamoured with it as I typically am.
I really liked this, would have liked to see a neater but slightly more drawn out ending but otherwise a fun book.
Did I choose this because it strongly reminded me of Poison Study? Perhaps. Is it good in its own right? For sure.
I've decided once I've gotten 50% into a book and I still don't like it there's nothing to be had for it, so thus my new shelf. I get it, it's meant for a younger audience than me (but so is most of what I read) but I found it pretty lacking even considering I read it to broaden my SFF picks to be more diverse.
A super disturbing and creepy thriller on so many levels. The last chapter made me want to pull my skin off, yeesh.
Perhaps I went through such a bad stretch of books I'm more forgiving, but this book is funny and just entertaining enough.
I don't know exactly what it is about these Regency fantasy books I find so charming but this series is delightful.
I laughed several times each chapter. Even though I'm unfamiliar with Singapore, I sure as hell want to go now. The food descriptions were to die for and I love and loathe each one of the characters. This is the best recent read in a while.
Read it because I love Ann Aguirre's post about sexism in SF although it is really not my kind of thing. Torn on whether to continue but it was a good read.
I have some serious issues with this book despite liking the romance so much esp. around the way sexual violence are used as plot devices.
